Is Facebook a Threat to Google?

The Wall Street Journal
April 9, 2013

Google is one of the most widely used search engines in the world. It's also one of the most used search engines on mobile devices, so one might think "what can challenge Google to become of the top search engines on mobile phones?" The answer might be a social media website which has the most users on the earth. Facebook might be closer to overtaking Google than you may think.

What is really driving Facebook is its display ads on mobile phones. According to a new report put out by IDC, they say that Facebook is now gaining on Google in display ads on mobile. Google is still at the top at search engine adds, but they are losing ground to mobile display ads which could open the door to social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and the internet radio station Pandora. Google is trying to use Google Plus as their main ad focus, but it's not working out as well as it was before and Facebook is starting to take advantage.

This news comes just a little over a year when Facebook started to sell mobile ads and they have become the biggest threat to Google, to become the biggest player on the internet.
